Be on the Lookout for Roof Repair

• If you notice that your shingles are starting to curl at the corners, come up in the center, or are cracking, it might be time for an inspection.
• The same goes if your shingles are fragmenting and leaving granules or sediments in your gutters. Shingles have a life span, but they don’t always live to see that.
• Chimneys, walls, and pipes are sealed with a metallic stripping called flashing that prevents leaks, so any sign of damage to that flashing needs immediate attention.
• If your roof feels softer than usual or sinks in anywhere, it could mean that moisture has rotted the wood underneath and needs to be repaired or restored.
• Algae can start to accumulate on areas of your roof and will appear as dark streaks, but it can be fixed with a simple cleaning.

Water Pipes

Since most of your water piping runs near the bathroom or kitchen, keep an eye on the ceiling or walls near those areas in your home for water stains.

Seal the Smokestack

The base of your chimney or any structure on your roof should be sealed with flashing, otherwise it can be an opening for water to get in. Loose or missing flashing needs to be repaired as soon as possible.

In the Walls

Water stains or weakened boards in the walls may not have to do with pipes. If the stains are popping up on outer walls, it could mean the flashing connecting your wall to the roof is bad and require repairing or a complete removal of your roof.

Skylights and More
